Mt. Datun West Peak (June 8, 2009)

Joanne, Tim, and I took a hike to the west peak of Mt. Datun in Yangmingshan National Park north of Taipei. The hike started out easy along a stone paved trail. After a while, it turned into a narrow footpath. One part of the trail tunneled through a cool tall grassy area. It finally headed straight up the side of Mr. Datun, with ropes in place to help hikers climb up.

Ghosts on the Roof (June 7, 2009)

After visiting the Confucius Temple and hanging out in the park by the Keelung River, Joanne, Tim, and I headed back home and hung out on the roof. We grilled up some dinner and then played with the night shot on Joanne’s Olympus camera. Beware of ghosts!

Dajia Waterfront (June 7, 2009)

After visiting the Confucius Temple, Tim, Joanne, and I headed over to the Lin Antai Family Homestead. But it was closed under construction, so we found a way to the river near the Dajia Wharf on the Keelung River upriver from the Yuanshan Hotel. We stayed there until sundown and watched the lights appear on the waterfront.

Trip to Papago (May 31 – June 1, 2009)

One of my student’s parents had a voucher for a free night at Papago International Resort near Taitung that they couldn’t use, so they gave it to me. We took the opportunity to take Tim south on the train, show him some Taiwan countryside, and chill at the resort for two days. We rented bikes to ride out for food and found a strange roadside zoo with pygmy hippos and zebras and other strange animals. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera so didn’t get pics, but I think Tim got some. We spent time at the poolside while there, and otherwise just hung out and had a good time.

Longshan Temple and Snake Alley (May 29, 2009)

In the evening, Joanne, Tim, and I headed downtown on the MRT and over to Longshan Temple. After checking out the temple, we walked over to Snake Alley, where restaurants sell snake soup or offer shots of snake’s blood. At one place, a snake handler had a cobra on display, but they didn’t allow photography.
